Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-In Short:
An aspiring actor pretends to be a super-cop in order to keep his mother happy, with hilarious consequences
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Verdict:
Rajkumar Santoshi’s latest offering can be defined as a ‘timepass masala’, though the second half could have been funnier…
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Story Plot:
Vishwas Rao (Shahid Kapoor) is an aspiring actor, who wishes to make it big in Bollywood, much to the dismay of his mother (Padmini Kolhapure), who wants him to become a cop.
When Vishwas is sent to Mumbai to appear for the police exams, he lands up at a photographer’s studio to get his portfolio clicked and ends up foiling a kidnap plot with the help of social worker Kajal (Ileana D’Cruz), while wearing a cop uniform meant for the portfolio.
Within days and after similar such incidents, he becomes famous as a super-cop, prompting his mother to come to Mumbai to visit her son. Now, the struggler has to pretend to be a cop for the sake of his proud mum, which leads to hilarious consequences.
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Performances:
Though this reviewer was never a big fan of Shahid Kapoor, it must be said that the lad has really unleashed himself in this flick. Kapoor displays an admirable comic talent and teaming up with a talented director like Rajkumar Santoshi brings out the best in him. Ileana D’Cruz is strictly passable, though she is easy on the eyes and Padmini Kolhapure does a decent job as the long-suffering mother. Apart from the main cast, there are actors such as Saurabh Shukla, Sanjay Mishra and Darshan Jariwala, to name a few, who make the film worth a watch.
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Direction:
Known for making the cult classic comedy Andaz Apna Apna, it can be said that Phata Poster Nikhla Hero is not Santoshi’s finest work, but yet, the film manages to be an entertainer. Some of the gags are quite funny and the rest are silly enough to make you chuckle helplessly. Santoshi takes digs at his own past movies and pulls a rabbit out of a hat with a Salman Khancameo, which is definitely one of the highlights of the film. However, Santoshi makes the same mistakes most filmmakers end up making. The second half of the film is not as funny as the first half and the climax has the predictable comic-action sequences that he has inserted in his previous comedy films such as Andaz Apna Apna and Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani.
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Music:The music of the film too is light-hearted like the film itself and with songs such as tu mere agal bagal and dhating naach, the film is sure to make you tap your feet to the beat. The romantic rang sharbaton ka is also quite good, though it doesn’t match the 'masala' mood of the film.
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Final Word:
If you desire a ‘one-time watch’ light-hearted fare, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero should not disappoint you.
