Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-In Short:
An aspiring actor pretends to be a super-cop in order to keep his mother happy, with hilarious consequences
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Verdict:
Rajkumar Santoshi’s latest offering can be defined as a ‘timepass masala’, though the second half could have been funnier…
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Story Plot:
Vishwas Rao (Shahid Kapoor) is an aspiring actor, who wishes to make it big in Bollywood, much to the dismay of his mother (Padmini Kolhapure), who wants him to become a cop.
When Vishwas is sent to Mumbai to appear for the police exams, he lands up at a photographer’s studio to get his portfolio clicked and ends up foiling a kidnap plot with the help of social worker Kajal (Ileana D’Cruz), while wearing a cop uniform meant for the portfolio.
Within days and after similar such incidents, he becomes famous as a super-cop, prompting his mother to come to Mumbai to visit her son. Now, the struggler has to pretend to be a cop for the sake of his proud mum, which leads to hilarious consequences.
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Performances:
Though this reviewer was never a big fan of Shahid Kapoor, it must be said that the lad has really unleashed himself in this flick. Kapoor displays an admirable comic talent and teaming up with a talented director like Rajkumar Santoshi brings out the best in him. Ileana D’Cruz is strictly passable, though she is easy on the eyes and Padmini Kolhapure does a decent job as the long-suffering mother. Apart from the main cast, there are actors such as Saurabh Shukla, Sanjay Mishra and Darshan Jariwala, to name a few, who make the film worth a watch.
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Direction:
Known for making the cult classic comedy Andaz Apna Apna, it can be said that Phata Poster Nikhla Hero is not Santoshi’s finest work, but yet, the film manages to be an entertainer. Some of the gags are quite funny and the rest are silly enough to make you chuckle helplessly. Santoshi takes digs at his own past movies and pulls a rabbit out of a hat with a Salman Khancameo, which is definitely one of the highlights of the film. However, Santoshi makes the same mistakes most filmmakers end up making. The second half of the film is not as funny as the first half and the climax has the predictable comic-action sequences that he has inserted in his previous comedy films such as Andaz Apna Apna and Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahaani.
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Music:The music of the film too is light-hearted like the film itself and with songs such as tu mere agal bagal and dhating naach, the film is sure to make you tap your feet to the beat. The romantic rang sharbaton ka is also quite good, though it doesn’t match the 'masala' mood of the film.
Phata Poster Nikhla Hero Movie Review-Final Word:
If you desire a ‘one-time watch’ light-hearted fare, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero should not disappoint you.

Grand Masti Movie Review

Naughty Nymphs And Horny Husbands!

3.0

Release Date : 13 September 2013
Genre : Comedy
Banner : Maruti International
Presenter : Producer : Ashok Thakeria , Indra Kumar
Director : Indra Kumar
Cast : Riteish DeshmukhVivek OberoiAftab ShivdasaniManjari FadnisChandi Perera

Grand Masti Movie Review-In Short:
Three married men attend their college reunion with the purpose of reliving their college days, with hilarious consequences.
Grand Masti Movie Review-Verdict:
Though some of the gags are quite funny, some others might make you gag, though the lead actors contribute to making the film a decent watch...
Grand Masti Movie Review-Story Plot:
Meet (Vivek Oberoi), Amar (Riteish Deshmukh) and Prem (Aftab Shivdasani) are fed up of their married lives as their respective spouses (Karishma TannaSonalee and Manjari Fadnis) seem to have lost interest in their husbands due to various reasons.
When the trio gets an opportunity to attend their college reunion festival, they decide to make the most of it and relive their fun-filled bachelor days. At the college, they fall for three nubile creatures- Rose (Maryam Zakaria), Mary (Bruna Abdullah) and Marlo (Kainaat Arora), who are all related to the no-nonsense college principal Robert Pereira (Pradeep Rawat). What happens later forms the rest of the plot.
Grand Masti Movie Review-Performances:
When it comes to performances, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani manage to provoke rib-tickling laughter. Riteish has a natural comic timing and so does Aftab and the duo team up to make you laugh more than the rest of the cast put together. Vivek Oberoi might not have the same kind of ease when it comes to comedy as Riteish and Aftab but yet, the Saathiya star puts in a honest effort to try and match up to the other two laughter masters. The women-folk offer nothing much except for visual delight. Suresh Menon, who is usually known to be bankable when it comes to humour, ends up being a disappointment with his bad wig and his worse jokes though Pradeep Rawat is funny in some scenes.
Grand Masti Movie Review-Direction:
When a movie claims to be an adult comedy, there is naturally a curiosity about the film, which will work in its favour. However, director Indra Kumar seems to focus more on the ‘adult’ part than the ‘comedy’ part- so, you have jokes aimed at human genitalia, jokes about impotency and some more jokes about masturbation, which might not be palatable for everyone. However, this is where the actors come in-Riteish, Aftab and Vivek ensure that you end up laughing at the jokes that you might have read earlier in some ‘non-veg sms forward’. Known for making rib-ticklers such as Ishq, Dhamaal, Double Dhamaal and Masti, Indra Kumar comes up with a naughty comic ride in Grand Masti, though we wish the last half an hour could have been funnier.
Grand Masti Movie Review-Music:The title track and other songs such as Zulmi and Mamla set kar le are foot-tapping and fun enough.
Grand Masti Movie Review-Final Word:
If you enjoy adult comedies, Grand Masti will ensure a grand time!

Mithu Chowdhury : India's first Dance India Dance Super Mom.

This is a dream come true for Mithu, who runs a small dance school in her house.

Mithu, who is mom to two sons aged four and seven, was encouraged by her husband to participate in the competition. She beat four other contestants - Shraddha Shah from Surat, Cecille Rodrigues from Goa, Zoya Khan from Dehradun and Phulwa Khamkar from Mumbai - to win the coveted trophy.

Mithu, who lost 12 kilos in the show, has showed that weight is no barrier when it comes to dancing.

She plans to donate a part of her winning amount to an orphanage. She dedicated her win to Grandmaster Mithun Chakraborty.
Mithu is a part of Siddhesh's team. Though she had learnt Bharatnatyam for 5.5 years, she had never performed on stage before making it to the DID stage.

When we spoke to Mithu minutes after the win, she said, "I did not think that I would win, so this is like a dream. I feel like pinching myself. The feeling hasn't sunk in yet and I still can't believe it. I don't know what to do. I can't explain this feeling. I just went blank when my name was announced. Grandmaster Mithun Chakraborty is very happy that someone from Kolkata has won the contest. Sonakshi Sinha, who was there at finals, told me that she was wishing from her heart that I win, since according to her, I am an ideal mother."

Shuddh Desi Romance Movie Review

3.5

Release Date : 06 September 2013
 Genre : Drama
 Banner : Yash Raj Films
Presenter : Producer : Aditya Chopra
 Director : Maneesh Sharma
Cast : Sushant Singh RajputParineeti ChopraVaani KapoorRishi Kapoor

Shuddh Desi Romance Movie Review-In Short:
The film explores the concept of love, compatibility and live-in relationships through the eyes of the three lead characters.
Shuddh Desi Romance Movie Review-Verdict:
Though Shuddh Desi Romance is entertaining per se, it drags a bit and takes a roundabout way to make its point.
Shuddh Desi Romance Movie Review-Story Plot:
Raghu (Sushant Singh Rajput) is a tour guide in Jaipur, who connects with Gayatri (Parineeti Chopra) and runs away from the wedding hall on the day of his marriage to Tara (Vaani Kapoor).
When Raghu and Gayatri bump into each other after some days, they give in to the mutual attraction and thus begins a ‘no strings attached’ relationship, that might soon develop into something stronger.
When Raghu and Gayatri decide to tie the knot, it is Gayatri, who does a ‘Runaway Bride’ this time, leaving Raghu heart-broken and confused. At this juncture, he comes across Tara and ostensibly develops feelings for her, which are fuelled by his guilt for having dumped her at the altar.
What happens next? Do the youngsters make up their minds? Watch the movie to find out…
Shuddh Desi Romance Movie Review-Performances:
Sushant Singh Rajput, who made his Bollywood debut with Kai Po Che!, impresses us once again with his portrayal of the confused Indian youth. His street-smart yet emotionally vulnerable Raghu will win your hearts and we hope to see the young actor in many more movies in the future. Parineeti does a good job too, though her ‘North Indian kudi’ persona is something that we have seen again and again. Vaani Kapoor looks pleasant enough, though she is unable to match up with Rajput and Chopra as far as the acting department is concerned. The veteran Rishi Kapoor is the one, who elicits the most claps for his role of the marriage organizer Goyal, who also doubles up as agony uncle for the lead characters. The rest of the cast performs admirably too, especially the guy, who plays the ‘fake baraati’.
Shuddh Desi Romance Movie Review-Direction:
Maneesh Sharma and Jaideep Sahni team up to offer this delightful take on the confusion of youth and their ‘fundas’ about relationships. Unlike other love stories, which deal with the purity of relationships, this flick is clever enough to show the insecurity and fear of loss behind every love story. However, on the flip side, the film doesn’t make sense at times. The whole reluctance about getting married and the subsequent running away would have been justified had the characters been pressurized by their parents or relatives to tie the knot. In this case, both Raghu and Gayatri themselves seem enthusiastic about getting married and then end up doing a runner…twice! Moreover, the second half might be a dampener, as it ends up being repetitive and one wished the makers would have not taken so much time to make one point. However, all said and done, the film is youthful, breezy and light, which should make for a pleasant viewing.
Shuddh Desi Romance Movie Review-Music:
With songs such as the romantic Gulabi, the mischievous Chanchal mann…ati random, the breezy Tere mere beech main and the fun-filled title track, SDR is a treat for everyone, as far as music is concerned!
Shuddh Desi Romance Movie Review-Final Word:
The youth would certainly love this film, though the second half might disappoint you to an extent.

'Andaz Apna Apna' sequel with Ranbir, Shahid Kapoor

Rajkumar Santoshi has been planning to make a sequel to his 1994 cult classic 'Andaz Apna Apna' for quite some time now. However, to get Aamir Khan and Salman Khan--who immortalised the characters of Amar and Prem in the rib-tickling comedy--on board is proving to be a major challenge. And now it seems Santoshi might just replace the two.

With his Shahid Kapoor-Ileana D'Cruz starrer,Phata Poster Nihkla Hero, almost ready for release, Santoshi is eager to put the sequel on floors. Mirror has learnt that instead of waiting for the two Khans, the director has decided to revamp the film with a contemporary storyline and a younger cast.

He has bounced off the idea to Shahid, who has already impressed him with his comic turn inPhata Poster. For the parallel lead, Santoshi is keen on roping in Ranbir Kapoor, with whom he has previously worked in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

A source close to the production said: "Although Rajji ideally wants to do the film with Aamir and Salman, he is keeping his options open. Since it has almost become an impossible task to get combination dates from the two, Rajji might go ahead with Ranbir and Shahid - who are both young and commercially viable."

However, no official announcement has been made yet. When contacted, Santoshi said, "It's very early for me to take the call on the actors. I am still in the process of putting together the script, so wouldn't like to comment on the casting of Andaz Apna Apna 2."

Satyagraha Movie Review

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Manoj Bajpai, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Amrita Rao
Direction: Prakash Jha
Genre: Drama
Duration: 2 hours 20 minutes

Story: As corruption erupts, what's the best satyagraha - to preach or practice?

Review: There's a shot in Satyagraha - a rainbow glimmering for a second between jets of water pounding protestors - which typifies this film. Vibrantly layered, Satyagraha weaves together urban legends of corruption, encompassing corporate lobbyists to murdered engineers. It features slices of histories, Chauri Chaura, Mandal, Anna Hazare's Jan Lokpal Andolan. It takes a real issue - corruption - to reel life, movingly fusing fact with fiction, leading to a security guard accompanying a politico at its screening to sing out aloud, "Aam aadmi kitna aam, Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram..."

Retired teacher Dwarka Anand (Bachchan) is an idealistic man. His engineer son Akhilesh's buddy Manav (Devgn) is an ambitious capitalist. Manav cherishes his friend - who suddenly dies. Minister Balram Singh (Bajpai) announces compensation which Akhilesh's wife Sumitra (Rao) cannot get despite daily applications before government babus. Incensed, Dwarka slaps an arrogant official and gets imprisoned. Manav starts a campaign to free him, using social media, roping in wannabe-bahubali Arjun Singh (Rampal) and journalist Yasmin (Kapoor). As hopeful students, hungry labourers and angry middle class citizens join, politicians panic. Will their moves derail the movement?

Devgn is Satyagraha's strong body while Amitabh - gaunt in grief, moving in fortitude - is its soul. And Bajpai is its glittering, malevolent cloak, delivering a satiny performance hair-raising in its perfection. Bachchan voices the movie's philosophy - "Janta sarkaar ki malik hai. Malik nirdesh deta hai. Maang nahin karta." But what is the best way to give such nirdesh? Symbolic protest? Violent revolt? Or a longer, harder route?

Satyagraha grapples with this dilemma. More philosophical than fiery, it adorns reality with gloss and loss. Dwarka touching the earth where his son fell brings tears while Prasoon Joshi's wonderful lyrics - "Uthkar karne hain kuch kaam, Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram" - bring hope.

Satyagraha deserves an extra half-star for capturing corruption from root to branch - a government babu complains, "Yahan toh table ka bhi bhaada dena padta hai". Showing trueSatyagraha has no short-cuts, it also shows solutions glimmering ahead, as ephemeral, yet powerful as a rainbow cleansing the dust.

Note: You may not like this movie if you avoid socio-political realities in cinema.
